OWI Oel-Waerme-Institut GmbH was founded in 1998 and is an affiliated institute of the RWTH-Aachen University. OWI is a nonprofit organization with its main task undertaking and promoting applied research and development in the field of energy and combustion technology with a special focus on liquid fuels. OWI has 50 employees including 15 PhD students. The research activities of OWI are financed on a project based approach and reach from applied industrial research projects to governmental financed fundamental research projects. OWI participated in many international and national project consortia in the field of research and development. Additionally OWI has a longtime experience in accomplishing and administrating projects funded by German public organizations like BMWI, DBU, AiF DGMK or AiF FOGI.
Role in the project
OWI will take care of the technical coordination including planning and monitoring of milestones and deliverables as well as the coordination of progress reporting together with RWTH (WP1). In WP5 OWI is responsible for development and optimization of FPBO fired burner system with special respect to atomization of fuel, spray characterization and possible firing strategies. Finally, prove of concept will to be provided by means of long term combustion tests under realistic conditions.
